Getting to School Safely

We’re all responsible for our children getting to and from school safely. Below is a safety map created by Principal Liu, as well as some guidelines for safe drop-off and pick-up.

 Wedgwood Arrivals & Departures Map

DRIVING

  • The zone in front of the school on 85th is one-way drop off only. Please pull all the way up to the North curb, facing West only, and let your child out of the car. No U-turns and no drop offs on the South side of 85th. This area becomes very hectic in the mornings and dropping of children on the wrong side of the street is dangerous.

  • To avoid the morning traffic jam on 85th, park on any one of the surrounding side streets and walk your child up to the playground. Take care not to block our neighbors’ driveways.

  • No U-turns, drop-off or pick-up in the staff parking lot off 86th. Kindergarten uses this lot to enter and exit the building.

  • Take your time, obey the crossing guard, and be extra vigilant as our mornings get darker and wetter in the winter. Better to be a few minutes late than put your student or other students at risk of an accident.

WALKING & BIKING  (see the SPS Walking Map HERE)

  • Wear bright or reflective clothing. Always wear your helmet while on your bike.

  • Make eye contact with drivers before you cross the street.

  • Walk on sidewalks where you can.

  • Cross at marked crosswalks where you can.

  • Obey the crossing guard.
