Comfort Kits due

:: All Students (K-5)

Our Emergency Preparedness Team is busy taking inventory of each classroom’s comfort kits. Please have your child’s comfort kit returned to their teacher by Friday, December 14th.*

After this time, the EPTeam will compile generic kits for any child who is without a comfort kit from home, ensuring that each child at Wedgwood is safe and comfortable during an emergency.

*Scholarships are available for any family who needs financial assistance for their comfort kit. Please contact Nurse Sarah to make arrangements – snbarquero@seattleschools.org

About Comfort Kits

Comforts Kits are your child’s personal property and are intended to make any extended stay at school a little easier. Due to limited space, we ask that only one comfort kit be sent in for each child. These items will be kept in your child’s classroom during the 2018/2019 school year and returned to you at the end of the year.

Please remember that foods in the comfort kits may not contain peanuts or tree nuts. Choose small, individually-packaged and fully sealed items that fit easily in the provided gallon-sized Ziploc bag.

Suggested Contents:

  • Socks

  • Underwear

  • Gloves

  • Winter hat

  • Small package of antibacterial hand wipes

  • 3-4 Non-perishable food items* (fruit bars, flip-top canned fruit, small canned juice, jerky, raisins, fruit gummies/roll-ups, packaged crackers, hard candies, dried fruit, tootsie pop) *Please, no peanuts or tree nuts

  • 1 small coloring/activity book and a marker/pen

  • A “comfort letter” from you

  • A family photograph

The items listed above are “suggested”. Please tailor your child’s comfort kit to their likes, dislikes and any specific needs.

Sample “comfort letters” can be found here. Feel free to use your own as well.
