Wedgwood Auction update: Get your tickets by March 8!

The “A Night in Monte Carlo” auction is just around the corner on Friday, March 22 at The Mountaineers. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled evening in support our kids, teachers and parent community.

There will be food tents with tasty enchiladas, Italian sausage & pepper sliders, honey garlic spareribs and more. To wash it all down, beer and wine plus a couple of surprise cocktails. There will be games to play: Plinko with prizes and a Wine Grab!

And tons of great items to bid on – kids activities, sporting events, spa services, weekend getaways, and exclusive experiences. Best of all, you’ll get a chance to hang out and socialize with other parents of mighty marmots.

It’s going to be a great evening, and we hope you’ll join us. Registration closes on Friday, March 8, so get your tickets today! Go online to or return your RSVP card to school.

WORK IT! It takes a crew of volunteers the night of the auction to pull off this event, doing everything from registering guests to manning the bar to packing up items for the winner bidder. No need to buy a ticket – dinner is on us and you can still bid on the goods (but no drinking). Sign up to work the night of the auction

BAKE IT! Another great way to contribute – donate a dessert! At the auction, bidders compete to buy their first choice of sweet treat for their table.

Auction spotlight: Auction items and parent parties

This year’s Monte Carlo-themed auction is shaping up to have some exciting and new items for you to bid on! Feeling lucky? Gather your friends and make your game plan now – you don’t want to miss out! Thank you to everyone who has contributed by offering an auction item, hosting a party, being a sponsor or volunteering your time. This doesn’t happen without the strong support of a generous community.

Set Sail to the Caribbean or Mexico: Hop aboard a luxurious, five-star Holland America ship and choose between two incredible (and warm!) destinations: the Caribbean or Mexico. Your seven-day cruise for two will leave you so refreshed and full of vitamin-D you’ll forget Snowmageddon ever happened.

Eyes on Who? Eyes on You! Wedgwood mom and optometrist Evie Lawson will open her doors, after hours, for an exclusive Wedgwood parent party. Enjoy champagne and canapes as you explore her vintage, stylish shop – this isn’t your parents’ optometrist. Evie will give a talk on how to style frames for your face shape, and offer a 20% discount on frames and lenses.

Design the Bathroom of Your Dreams: Is a bathroom upgrade in your future? Bathroom designers and Wedgwood moms Meredith Stenning and Leslie Collinson will bring their years of professional design experience to your bathroom remodel project. Whether your plan is to have a contractor start tearing down walls or you want to gently chip away at the project yourself, Meredith and Leslie will give you a professional plan including a 3D CAD concept of your remodel to get started.

Congratulations to Wedgwood Global Reading Challenge Winners!

By Ms. Leland

Last month we held our in-school Global Reading Challenge, the culmination of a reading program for fourth and fifth graders run by the Seattle Public Library. This was our third year participating and we had a record 63 students on 9 teams. Great work, Marmots!

This year’s winning team was the Fire Dragons! Congratulations to team members: Diana, Malakai, Harper, Noah, Minya, Meg and Liya. We know you will do your best in the semi-final round held at the Downtown Seattle Public Library on Friday, March 15. Families are welcome to come out and support our Marmots from 11 a.m.-noon, as they compete against other Seattle teams. The winner will move onto the final round, held in late March. We are proud of you!

We had a wonderful selection of Global Reading Challenge books this year. Please stop by the library if you are interested in checking out a copy.

Blog post: Diversity & Inclusion Committee kicks off Community Read program

By Keilee Kramer

Please join me and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee in kicking off our WedgwoodElementary Community Read program with our first selection: "Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People." Last year the Wedgwood Elementary staff and leadership read this book so we thought it would be the perfect pick for our first “community read.” Please check out our PTA blog entry for more information about the topic of unconscious bias, and how we can counteract implicit and explicit prejudice. It’s a fascinating read!

Proposed pickleball courts at Eckstein Middle School: March 21 meeting

On March 21, at 6:30 pm (Before 7:30 Eckstein Band Concert) In the Eckstein Library, all future Eckstein Families and community members are invited to come see the proposed designs for pickleball courts to potentially be built on a damaged tennis court at Eckstein MS. If constructed, the four pickleball courts will be used by PE classes, open play at lunchtime for all students and open for public use evenings, weekends and any school holiday. Professional architectural services have been funded by a City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods grant.  Come see the two proposed scenarios and help decide the final design. Questions?
