Thank you, Auction Committee
On behalf of the PTA, we would like to thank this year’s Auction Chair, Lisa West, and her entire auction committee. The planning process that goes into the auction begins shortly after the previous year’s ends and this year involved more than 3,500 volunteer hours.
Pulling off an event that aims to bring together our community, honor our Wedgwood leadership and staff, and creatively keep costs as low as possible in order to raise the most money we can for the school requires an extraordinary effort. Their countless hours of volunteering is on behalf of every student at Wedgwood. If you see Lisa in the halls, please give her a high five!
Auction news & event feedback
There are still a few spaces available for various kid’s sign-up parties as well as parent parties! Check them out and sign up at A Night in Monte Carlo. Sign ups will close this Friday, April 6.
Believe it or not, auction planning for next year begins soon! To help us get started, we welcome your feedback on this year’s event. For the next two weeks, you may provide your feedback through this link. And if you’re interested in being a part of next year’s planning committee, drop us a line at email@example.com.
Wedgwood PTA Speaker Series: Understanding your child's brain and developing a growth mindset
Raise your hand if your child has ever “flipped their lid” at home? OK, I see that’s all of us. But do we always know why? And how to respond to our kids when this happens?
Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 24th at 6 p.m. in the Wedgwood library as we welcome Michelle Warsing from Pacific Northwest Play Therapy. Michelle is a licensed family therapist as well as a registered play therapist and will help our Wedgwood community develop and implement tools to better connect with our children and help them process and deal with their life experiences.
Three times a year the PTA invites a speaker to help educate our community on a variety of topics related to having elementary-aged children. This is a busy time in all of our lives and our goal is to give everyone the opportunity to step back and thoughtfully reflect on our relationships within our own families and with our children.
Childcare will be provided by Wedgwood staff.
PTA board openings: Spotlight on communications
Do you have the gift of gab, only from your fingertips to your keyboard? If you’d like to use that gift to keep our Wedgwood families informed about all of the cool things happening at the school, this may just be the role for you.
You will work with our current Communications Lead to help compile and deliver the Wedgwood Weekly (this handy tool!), make updates to the PTA Website and work with school leadership and our event leads to ensure our community is kept up to date on the latest and greatest to come out of Wedgwood Elementary. To learn more about this position, please contact our current Communications Lead, Holly Sommer –firstname.lastname@example.org.
Spring Cleaning -- Donate to the PTA used book sale
Use that spring break to spring clean! You still have time to donate those used books and games to the PTA Used Book Sale. Drop your donations in front of the library – kid's books only please. Last day for collections will be Friday April 19. All book sales support our PTA and your kids!
SAVE THE DATE: Sale will be Wednesday - Friday, April 24–26 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. (or 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday) in the school library. Kids will be attending with their classrooms and will have time during lunch and after school to attend the sale.

The Carnival is coming! Save the date for June 1
Save the Date for the annual Wedgwood Carnival, happening Saturday, June 1, from noon-3 p.m. There will be exciting new activities as well as fan favorites. This year there will be no ticket sales, but instead a suggested donation to help offset costs. Also, we’re pleased to announce that everyone can eat for FREE from the Skooder’s hot dog truck!
As always, there will be plenty of entertainment and fun for all with an inflatable obstacle course, ballistic swing ride, carnival games, arts and crafts, the popular dessert dash and more!
Wedgwood Night at the Mariners
Mark your calendars for Friday, May 31, and sit with your fellow Marmots as the Mariners take on the Los Angeles Angels at 7:10 p.m. followed by Star Wars Fireworks Night. Tickets are $14/each and need to be ordered by April 26. Information will be sent home via kidmail in early April, or you can go to the Wedgwood PTA website to order your tickets today!
Marmots show democracy in action
Thank you to the 182 parents who signed a postcard last week asking our legislators to lift the current “levy lid” and allow our schools to use 100% of the funds that were recently passed by voters (they are currently allowing only 75% of these funds to be used). If this doesn’t happen, Seattle Public Schools will experience a $40 million budget shortfall in the 2019-2020 school year. This will affect all SPS schools, including Wedgwood.
Our fourth graders are headed down to Olympia today for a field trip where they will personally hand off our postcards to our representatives. Go, Marmots, go!
If you did not get a chance to fill out a postcard, please consider contacting one of our District 46 legislators: Senator David Frockt, Representative Gerry Pollet or Representative Javier Valdez. This shortfall doesn’t have to happen, and we need to press our representatives to help our schools access these voter-approved funds.
