Calling all scientists!
Wedgwood’s annual STEM Night is Thursday, May 9, and we are looking for kid and adult scientists to share their background in science or display student poster projects in the cafeteria. The famous egg drop will take place on the playground.
This year, we welcome local scientists from: Pacific Science Center, UW Planetarium, Seattle Audubon Society, Washington Butterfly Association, Sound Bio Lab, Puget Sound Marine Invertebrates, Garfield High School Robotics Club and of course, from right here in our Wedgwood community.
Please mark your calendar now, and visit the STEM page on the PTA website for more information on requirements for student posters and the egg drop.
PTA Board seeks to reflect diversity in Wedgwood community
The work of fulfilling the 2019-2020 PTA Board continues! An ongoing goal is to make sure our Board reflects the diversity among our Wedgwood community. Is a Board commitment too much for you? Please consider chairing or co-chairing an event. We want the various cultures and backgrounds in our community reflected in everything we do at Wedgwood! We also still need a treasurer, and a number of other positions. See the full list here.
Wedgwood PTA Speaker Series on April 24: Understanding your child's brain and developing a growth mindset
Raise your hand if your child has ever “flipped their lid” at home? OK, I see that’s all of us. But do we always know why? And how to respond to our kids when this happens?
Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 24 at 6 p.m. in the Wedgwood library as we welcome Michelle Warsing from Pacific Northwest Play Therapy. Michelle is a licensed family therapist as well as a registered play therapist and will help our Wedgwood community develop and implement tools to better connect with our children and help them process and deal with their life experiences.
Three times a year the PTA invites a speaker to help educate our community on a variety of topics related to having elementary-aged children. This is a busy time in all of our lives and our goal is to give everyone the opportunity to step back and thoughtfully reflect on our relationships within our own families and with our children.
Child care will be provided by Wedgwood staff.
Help make Bike to School Month happen at Wedgwood
Would you like to help promote biking at Wedgwood? Bike to School Month starts on May 1, and we could use one or two more coordinators to help plan a bike-to-school event, distribute tracking calendars, and do other fun tasks to get more kids on two wheels. Ifyou’re interested in helping out, email Elisa Murray at firstname.lastname@example.org
Let's help Mr. Dugdale
With more than 100 4th and 5th graders enrolled in the instrumental music program at Wedgwood, many of you are familiar with the amazing Alex Dugdale. Earlier this school year, his partner suffered a stroke and our families have been helping them with meals twice a week.
Now that we're into spring, the sigh up genius needs a few more volunteers to pitch in: nothing fancy, just some simple home cooked food in containers you don't need back. Let's help them through this rough time.
Please contribute photos to the yearbook!
The Wedgwood yearbook needs your photos by April 19! Upload images from the school year directly to the yearbook portal to be considered for inclusion in the 2018-19 book. We're looking for candid shots of kids having fun, learning, and growing at Wedgwood and at any Wedgwood-related activity this year. We have lots of room in the yearbook this year and strive to show every student in the school.
Follow the instructions below to upload photos.
Extra credit if you tag the kids in each image (list them separated by commas) and indicate the class (by teacher name not room number) or event (such as Move-a-Thon, winter concert, cultural festival, etc).
Email Lori Kelley at WedgwoodYearbookSea@gmail.com with questions!

Run away to the Carnival! (Psst: great volunteer opp)
Planning is underway for the Wedgwood Carnival, which happens on June 1! Want to help make this family-friendly event a success? We are looking for a few area leads to be in charge of things like food set-up, entertainment, and crafts. These positions are great if you're planning to attend the carnival anyway and have a couple hours beforehand to make sure it runs smoothly.
Wedgwood Night at the Mariners
Mark your calendars for Friday, May 31, and sit with your fellow Marmots as the Mariners take on the Los Angeles Angels at 7:10 p.m. followed by Star Wars Fireworks Night. Tickets are $14/each and need to be ordered by April 26. Information will be sent home via kidmail in early April, or you can go to the Wedgwood PTA website to order your tickets today!
The hallways have come to life
Next time you’re inside the school, please take a moment to check out the new and wonderful photos of our students lining the hallways, gym, library and lunchroom. They beautifully capture the specials moments at school of kids just being…kids. They are reading, collaborating, sharing, teaching, laughing. Thank you to our amazing librarian Kristi Leland for your vision and initiative in writing a grant to the PTA for printing costs. Thank you to Wedgwood mom and photographer Julie Nimmergut for volunteering your time and expertise to capture these special moments. And, thank you to Annick Garcia Rooney and all of the art docents who volunteered their time to measure and carefully place each piece of this ‘collection’ in our school.
You can’t help but smile. Take a look next time you are in the building!
