STEM night is this Thursday, May 9

The Pacific Science Center was at school today kicking things off with an assembly for our kids featuring all the elementary school favorites: experiments and explosions.

This Thursday is STEM Night; it's such a great event for our Wedgwood community – please consider volunteering a bit of your time to ensure it runs smoothly. We are light on volunteers compared to the amazing amount of scientists coming to our school to share their time and talents and make this an exciting night for our kids.

So put those last touches on your egg drop design and help your kiddo polish up his or her experiment – we’ll see you Thursday for STEM Night!

Also: We need more volunteers for STEM night! Sign up here.

If you can read ... thank a teacher!

It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Time to shower our Wedgwood teachers and staff with all the praise they deserve. We know plans are underway in each classroom, and the PTA will also deliver goodies throughout the week including gift bags for each teacher, the popular coffee cart, and ending the week with gift card bingo. It's just a small we can say what's on all of our minds: We Love Our Wedgwood Teachers!

Bike to School Day is this Wednesday, May 8!

May is Bike to School Month here in Seattle, in which Wedgwood Elementary competes with other schools and classrooms compete with each other to see who can rack up the most minutes of bicycling during the month.  Any biking anywhere counts – it doesn’t have to be to and from school. You should have received a tracking calendar in kid mail last week; if not, you can download a tracking calendar from the Cascade Bicycle Club website.

This Wednesday, May 8 is Bike to School Day; if your child bikes, look for booths in front of the school and on the playground where they can sign in, get a treat and get entered to win prizes. We hope to get as much participation as possible that day.

Where to lock bikes: We can continue to have students lock up their bikes at the front of the school or on the fence between the portables and the main building. Another area that could work is the fence between the staff parking lot and the kindergarten classroom windows.

You can still order a yearbook! New deadline: May 17

Miss the deadline for yearbook orders? There's still time to get a keepsake from the 2018-19 year. (Cost: $14.70 online):

Mark your calendars and grab your garden gloves: Spring Garden Work Party, Saturday, May 11, 12-3pm

Join us for a Spring Garden Work Party! We will be weeding, pruning, beautifying, hauling out the old, and bringing in the new!

Come gather with your neighbors, enjoy cookies & lemonade and help our School Garden thrive. All are welcome, no experience required. We have plenty of garden tools and a district provided yard waste dumpster to fill!

Please sign up using this link first so we have a good count for refreshments.

The Seattle School district is supporting this spring cleaning with tools, gloves, yard waste dumpster and more so please come by for a bit and help us sweep up wood chips or gravel, pull a couple weeds or trim a blackberry. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you Marmots for your help keeping your Wedgwood garden and school grounds maintained.

Run away to the Carnival! (Psst: great volunteer opp)

Planning is underway for the Wedgwood Carnival, which happens on June 1! Want to help make this family-friendly event a success? We are looking for a few area leads to be in charge of things like food set-up, entertainment, and crafts. These positions are great if you're planning to attend the carnival anyway and have a couple hours beforehand to make sure it runs smoothly.

Mighty Movers needs you!

Every Monday at lunch recess K-3 have an opportunity to earn foot charms by running around the track. The kiddos love this activity, but if we don’t have enough volunteers we need to cancel. Help us out and sign up here. There are only a few more Monday lunch recesses when we will do Mighty Movers. Don’t let our kiddos down!

Mondays from 11:40-12:30 on the playground.
