Hello, Marmot families! We are entering into the final months of school and have a lot of fun student and family activities on the calendar between now and the end of the school year. Please also check the PTA Website for details and be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities:
Wedgwood Night at the Mariners: Friday, May 31
Wedgwood Carnival: Saturday, June 1, noon-3 p.m.
Talent Show: Friday, June 14, 12:40-2 p.m.
Spring Garden Party: Friday, June 14, 2:25-4:40 p.m.
Field Day: Wednesday, June 19
5th Grade Promotion: Friday, June 21, 9-10 a.m.
It's the Wedgwood Carnival! (donation alert)
Join us this Saturday, June ,1 from noon to 3 p.m. for the annual Wedgwood Carnival!
The rides are booked, the food trucks locked down, Sno cone ice is being shaved as we speak. We just need our Wedgwood community to step up and help us run one of our most FUN events of the year!
There is a change to how we will collect money this year – there will be no tickets/wristbands, and we would like to avoid taking money at the door on Saturday so please make your carnival donation online today! We are asking every family who is able to contribute to donate a suggested minimum of $20 per family. This will help offset roughly $4,000 in uncovered expenses for the carnival. It's easy to donate here.
Volunteers still needed! We need to fill our last few volunteer spots – there are several fun options: from working the prize table to manning the obstacle course to keeping an eye on the quiet craft area. Have a Wedgwood alum who needs volunteer hours? We’d love to have them volunteer as well! Sign up for a volunteer spot.
Spring garden sale at Wedgwood, June 1
During the carnival, don't forget to check out the spring garden sale, a fundraiser for the Wedgwood Elementary Learning Garden and Wedgwood PTA. It will also be held Saturday, June 1, from noon to 3 p.m.
Marmots to take over T-Mobile Park!
Our baseball-loving Wedgwood community ordered approximately 245 tickets for the Wedgwood Night at the Mariners Game! We’ll see you all this Friday night, May 31, as the Mariners take on the Los Angeles Angels at 7:10 p.m. followed by Star Wars Fireworks Night. Tickets went home via kidmail last week. If you have Wedgwood spirit gear, that’s the night to wear it!
Also, if you have questions about the tickets, contact Justin Day at email@example.com.
Pedal fast! Bike to School Month ends Friday, May 31!
Lots of kids have been biking to school and all around northeast Seattle. Keep your kids tracking their biking through May 31, and then turn in your tracking calendars either in a magazine box at the front of the school or scan and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.. We'll tally up the totals and see which class has biked the most minutes. Any biking anywhere counts – it doesn’t have to be to and from school. Download a tracking calendar from the Cascade Bicycle Club website.
Kindergarten Barnyard Moosical, Friday, June 7
A note from Ms. Waltzer:
Our kindergarten Barnyard Moosical will be Friday, June 7 at 6 p.m. on the Wedgwood Stage (in the cafeteria). Please drop your student off in their classrooms at 5:40 before finding your seat 🙂 We have made head pieces for our costumes, but other than that students can wear what they want (some want to wear the color that matches their animals). Thank you! Prepare for the adorableness!
The Wedgwood Pantry is available; nurse's office needs kids' clothing
We still have plenty of food downstairs by the elevators at the Wedgwood Pantry. If your family could use extra food this spring or summer, please come take as many bags of food as you would like. The pantry will be cleared out for the summer by June 15, so please come before then if you would like food. If you are unable to come to school for the food, please contact Nurse Sarah and she will help make other arrangements.
The nurse’s office is in need of clothing – specifically youth medium and large T-shirts and youth large leggings and sweatpants. Thank you for any donations!
Traveling museum comes to Wedgwood
Our Art Docent program has been working closely with the Seattle Art Museum and The Burke Museum to bring items from their collections directly to our own Wedgwood students. Last month, our kids explored the visual culture of African art which included a mask, stool, jewelry and textiles. This month, keep an eye out for art and artifacts from our own Pacific Northwest Coastal Natives and next month we’ll have objects from Australia and Oceania on loan from SAM. Everything will be displayed in the cases outside the office and learning opportunities will be arranged by teachers and classroom art docents.
Calling all party planners!
We are on the hunt for next year’s planning committee for Wedgwood’s grown-ups-only party of the year! The annual auction is Wedgwood’s biggest fundraiser of the school year, and it’s also an awesome community builder for families and the staff in attendance. We are looking for a few good Marmots to support or lead parts of the auction including Marketing, Event Planning and Procurement. Many of these roles can be done in the evenings and on your own time. We need an energetic team in place to pull off an event of this size! The funds raised are critical for all of the kids who attend Wedgwood Elementary. Please consider volunteering and email Roshni Hourselt at email@example.com to learn more.
Mighty Movers needs you!
The LAST Mighty Movers for the school year is Monday, June 3, from 11:40 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Let’s make this last one fun for the kiddos! Please consider volunteering and helping out. Sign up here.
