All-school PJ Day on Friday, December 21

You did it, Wedgwood! You donated more than 200 pairs of pajamas (the original goal was 100) to the Scholastic Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive led by Wedgwood staff. Friday will be an all-school pajama day as a reward, along with a special cafeteria dance party for grades K-2, then 3-5.

Blog post: Stay sane during winter break

Elisa Murray, Wedgwood mom to 3rd grader Isaac and freelance writer, has written a local activities blog post for her fellow Wedgwood community: 36 Things to do With Kids Over Winter Break. Enjoy and please add your ideas. It takes a village!

Pledge drive thank you

The 2018 Pledge Drive came to a close last month and I want to take a moment to recognize the individuals who lead this effort, as well as our Wedgwood community and staff.

A very special thank you to Sara and Andy Hoofnagle, parents to Jane and Meg, who raised their hands to lead the Pledge Drive this year. Sara is a middle school teacher and understands all too well the shortage of funds our schools face each year. Thank you both for your time and dedication to this effort!

And lastly, thank YOU to our Wedgwood community. In total, we had 109 donors representing families and staff, and a 19% increase in participation. Donations started at $25 and went up from there. If you were on the fence this year, please know that any amount is greatly appreciated. This year, your contributions added up to more than $24,000! With your support our kids will continue to have access to enrichment activities like our art docent program and learning garden, teachers will be able to request funds for school wide projects, and the PTA will ensure scholarship funds are available for any Wedgwood family. Just to name a few! Thanks Wedgwood, we’re so appreciative of our special community.

In gratitude,

Nassim Pietsch, PTA Fundraising Chair

Cultural festival volunteer opportunities

Thank you to Kris Van Houten for taking the Lead Volunteer role for our Cultural Festival! We’re so happy this event will continue for our kids. She is looking for help in the following areas, so please consider volunteering your time to one of these Committee Chairs.

Legislative update for Wedgwood: Know your levies

The two levies will come up on a special election February 12, 2019

Operations Levy – Fills gap between what the state covers and what the schools needs to operate: guarantees services for special education and support for vulnerable students

Building Excellence Levy – Adds buildings, reduces portables, and provides technology infrastructure.

Fun fact about the Building Excellence Levy: These schools will be entirely replaced or modernized: Alki, John Rogers, Kimball, Mercer, Montlake, Northgate, Rainier Beach and Viewlands.

The superintendent of public instruction has recently defended his support of the levies in the Seattle Times.

You can always find the latest news on legislative actions from the WA State PTA advocacy page. To join the 2018-2019 WWE PTA as legislative representative, contact: Amalia Magaret.

Reflections art project at Seattle Center

If you are at the Seattle Center this holiday season, our Wedgwood artists artwork will be on display at the Seattle Center Armory Loft until January 6th.

All Reflections Artists are invited to attend the Recognition Ceremony, which will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019 2-3 p.m.

Feel free to contact Renee Davis at if you have any questions.
