Emergency Bins and Comfort Kits

  • We need one volunteer from each classroom to be the Safety Parent.

    The responsibilities of this role:

    • Help empty and refill your classrooms water bricks (yearly).

    • Beginning of the school year:

      • Coordinate the comfort kits and ensuring that each student in your room has theirs.

      • Bring emergency bin to P3 for storage.

    • End of the year:

      • Bring emergency bin back to the classroom so comfort kits can be returned home.

If interested, please contact Lisa MacKenzie at lisa.mackenzie@mail.com so we can get this off the ground and running the first couple of weeks of the school year!

  • Comfort Kits are your child’s personal property and are intended to make any extended stay at school a little easier.

Completed kits should be put into a gallon ziplock bag, labeled with your child’s name and teacher, and returned to your child’s classroom by September 20.

Due to limited space, we ask that only one comfort kit be sent for each child.  These items will be kept on site for the 2023/24 school year and returned to you at the end of the year.

We understand that providing these kits might place a financial burden on some families. Please do the best you can. The hand-written comfort letter and picture of the family are especially important for each family to send. For those that need financial assistance putting together these kits (PTA support is available), please contact Lisa MacKenzie at lisa.mackenzie@mail.com.

Additionally, if you can donate any additional items to help a family in need, please contact me as well.

  • All items must fit in a one-gallon ziplock bag.

    • Socks

    • Underwear

    • Gloves

    • Winter hat

    • 3-4 Non-perishable food items (fruit bars, flip-top canned fruit, small canned juice, jerky, raisins, fruit gummies/roll-ups, packaged crackers, hard candies, dried fruit, tootsie pop) NO NUTS or TREE NUTS please.

    • A favorite book

    • A “comfort letter” from you

    • A family photograph

The list above includes “suggested” items. Please tailor your child’s comfort kit to their likes, dislikes, and any specific needs.

Please see below for sample “comfort letters” for your child/children that might be helpful. Feel free to use your own as well.
