Get Ready for the Move-A-Thon this Friday!

Things to Know Before the Big Day:

Bring your pledge envelopes to school on Friday morning. Students will need to turn in their pledge envelopes so their laps can be recorded. Pledge envelopes will then be sent back home and used to collect pledges from sponsors. If you can, combine pledges into one online donation (type “Move-A-Thon”, your students’ name & classroom number in the company field) to make it easier on our treasurers.

Dress for the weather and be prepared. We will move rain or shine! Ensure students are wearing good walking/running shoes and bring a rain jacket.

We still need volunteers! Please consider volunteering to help this event run smoothly.

Want to come support your Marmot? Here's the schedule for each grade level:

  • 8:05 – 8:35       3rd Grade

  • 8:35 – 9:05 4th Grade

  • 9:05 – 9:35 5th Grade

  • 9:35 – 10:05 2nd Grade

  • 10:20 – 10:50 Kindergarten

  • 10:50 – 11:20 1st Grade

Questions? Contact Move-A-Thon parent lead Lillian Keil.

Last Chance to Submit your Art to Reflections

Reflections is a National PTA-sponsored art program where students can submit their art in a variety of creative mediums. All entries have the chance to be featured in a national traveling exhibit! Pick up submission guidelines and an entry form today in the office or from Ms. Voelk (or download here) and return to the PTA box in the office by November 4th.

Contact Reflections parent-lead Sara McPhee at with any questions.

Important Halloween Reminders

Wedgwood’s Halloween festivities are intended to take time to build a sense of classroom and school community in a fun and imaginative way. Classroom activities are determined by individual teachers. Students can wear costumes this Thursday, October 31st, but they need to be school appropriate (and not include masks, heavy make up, toy weapons, or inappropriate images/gore).

Also, Wedgwood is a diverse and dynamic community. To ensure all members of our community feel safe and supported, please refrain from wearing costumes to school which promote racial, cultural, or gender stereotypes or epithets. Read articles here and here for more information on cultural appropriation.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is right around the corner! This is a perfect time to pick up some new books for the readers in your life, support our school library, and get a jump start on your holiday shopping. Our library is 100% funded by YOU, our PTA, and parent community. For every dollar that you spend at the book fair, Scholastic gives back a portion to our school library to help our students have the books they LOVE. The book fair begins Tuesday, November 12th and runs through the fall dance on Friday, 11/15. Look for more details to come.

Volunteers are wanted to help make our book fair a success. You can sign up to help in a variety of ways such as cashier, book fair host, or even dressing up as a beloved book character (costume provided). To help out, please sign up on the SignUp Genius or contact Mrs.Leland at klleland@seattleschools.org.

Volunteer Opportunity: Community Sponsorship Assistant

Wedgwood Elementary has an important relationship with our local business community. As Wedgwood residents, parents, and patrons of our local shops, we also reach out to seek support for two major fundraising events each school year: the Move-A-Thon and Spring Auction. Martina Austin is seeking help this year to complete the task of reaching out to businesses for an annual sponsorship (one ask covers both events), and maintain ongoing relationships as each event comes up. The ideal volunteer would be interested in taking over the role next year, though this isn’t required. Please contact Martina Austin if you’re interested.

Garden Volunteers Needed

Our wonderful garden docents still need parent help for garden lessons! Please consider signing up for a shift or two; no gardening or teaching experience needed. You can sign up for your own childs’ classroom lesson time, or for any open shift. Thank you!

Jazz at Jane Addams

Jane Addams Middle School Senior Jazz Band is hosting a benefit concert on November 7th at 7pm in JAMS Auditorium, and would like to invite students, family and faculty of Wedgwood to attend. This concert is to help raise funds for the band to attend the Jazz Education Network Conference in New Orleans, where they are the only middle school band selected to perform!

JAMS Senior Jazz Band has a Wedgwood alumni, Peter Strickland, Class of 2017, on Tenor Saxophone. Wedgwood's instrumental music teacher, Alex Dugdale, will also be making a guest appearance. Hope to see you there!

Play Ultimate Frisbee at Wedgwood

All 3rd-5th grade Wedgwood students are invited to come learn how to play Ultimate Frisbee on Monday nights from 6:15-7:30 pm in the Wedgwood gym. Players will learn basic skills such as throwing, catching, cutting and defense. Bring a water bottle and wear tennis shoes. No experience necessary. An adult must be present while kids are playing.

Play begins Monday, November 4th. Please contact Rina Geoghagan with any questions.
