PTA needs you! Help nominate our next leaders

We are looking for a few people to help with this year's nominating committee. The committee helps with the recruiting and nominating of our PTA Executive Board (President, VP, Treasurer and Secretary). This is a great way to get involved and learn about the PTA with a low time commitment! Please contact ann.grodnik@gmail.com with questions.

Wedgwood Auction update: Less than a month away!

Here's the latest news from A Night in Monte Carlo, to be held Friday, March 22!

Congratulations to Xia and Allen Cutter, the winners of our Early Registration Prize! A $50 gift card to Mioposto is heading your way!

Registrations are pouring in! Please remember to return your RSVP card or register online at charityauction.bid/wedgwoodauction.

Get ready for Wine Drop Wednesdays! This year we are featuring a Wine Grab and need your help! Beginning next Wednesday, March 6, Lisa West (Auction Chair) will be accepting donations of wine on her doorstep – she’s just a few blocks from the school at 3215 NE 91st St. Please make sure the bottle is valued in the $20 range and, if you’d like to donate a bottle of higher value, let us know! We’ll make sure to give it a special label. It takes approximately 60 bottles to make our Wine Grab a success, so we will continue this every Wednesday until the auction!

Calling all bakers! We are bringing back last year’s delicious dessert dash and are looking for 30 desserts to be displayed, then auctioned off and devoured, the night of the auction. Each dessert should feed a table of 10, and can be delivered to the Mountaineers on Friday, March 22nd between 2:30-5:30. Questions? Sign up online here

What’s coming next:

Many of you have reached out offering to volunteer the night of the auction (thank you!). Our official call for volunteers will be out next week.

Questions? Reach me at auctionwedgwood@gmail.com.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon! - Lisa West, Auction Chair

Wedgwood's instrumental music teacher featured in Earshot Jazz magazine

Earshot Jazz recently featured our very own Mr. Dugdale, an immensely talented musician and dancer – and luckily for us, Wedgwood teacher. Read on to learn about his unique combination of being both a talented saxophonist and tap dancer. According to the author “there is simply no other artist combining those skills in the manner in which he performs.” But it wouldn’t surprise any of his students to hear that he equally loves mentoring young musicians and bringing his passion for music into the classroom. Thank you, Mr. Dugdale! We are so lucky to have you.

Blog post: Diversity & Inclusion Committee kicks off Community Read program

By Keilee Kramer

Please join me and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee in kicking off our WedgwoodElementary Community Read program with our first selection: "Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People." Last year the Wedgwood Elementary staff and leadership read this book so we thought it would be the perfect pick for our first “community read.” Please check out our PTA blog entry for more information about the topic of unconscious bias, and how we can counteract implicit and explicit prejudice. It’s a fascinating read!

Marie Kondo those books and help out the PTA

Keep used-book donations coming! The PTA is collecting used children’s books for the upcoming used book sale in April. Drop your donations in front of the library – kid's books only please. All book sales support the PTA and your kids! The sale will be Wednesday-Friday, April 24-26 in the library, so mark your calendars. If you want to help out or have question contact Emilie Wicker at Emiliewicker@hotmail.com.

Super-easy volunteer opp available

If you are on the private Wedgwood Families Facebook group and enjoy the discussions, fun photos, resources, and quick answers you get from other parents in the community, consider signing up to act as the Administrator for the group during the 2019-2020 school year. The gig is easy and requires less than an hour a week of time. All you have to do is read the posts to make sure people are posting appropriate material, not posting kids’ full names, and acting civilly towards one another.

You also need to approve new member requests. My child graduates this year, so I need a K-4 parent to take over in June, 2018. Because the WW Facebook group is NOT administered by the school or PTA and is parent run, it requires a current parent to act as Administrator. Please send Elise Gruber a private message through Facebook if you are interested. Thanks!

Opportunity for girls to learn lax: Beginners welcome at March 1 clinic

Roosevelt High School Girls Lacrosse team is sponsoring a girls youth lacrosse clinic for girls grades 3-8 with ANY and ALL abilities. This is the fifth annual event in which we honor our friend and past teammate, Molly Conley (nicknamed MC2). She was a 4.0 student, an aggressive lacrosse player and a wonderful friend. Molly loved the game, having fun and making new friends. We provide this clinic for young girls in her honor, because Molly made a lasting impact.

The clinic this year is on FRIDAY NIGHT, March 1, from 5-7 p.m., with registration starting at 4:45pm. Registration comes with a free Roosevelt Girls Lacrosse T-shirt for your player (if you register prior to 2/15/19). Click here to register.

Who wants to play ultimate frisbee?

Is your 3rd-5th grade child interested in playing Ultimate Frisbee? We are looking at starting a team at Wedgwood and trying to gauge interest. Ultimate is a very fun, active, and unique team sport that emphasizes sportsmanship and 'spirit of the game'. It is co-ed and multi-grade.

Practices will most likely take on Mondays from 5-6 p.m. at Thornton Creek play field with games on Saturdays. Even if your child has never played an organized sport, Ultimate is a welcoming environment for everyone.

If your child is interested and/or you are interested in helping out, please email WedgwoodUltimate@gmail.com asap. Team sign ups are mid-February.
