Coronavirus Q&A this Thursday at Wedgwood

Please join us on Thursday, March 5th at 6:30pm in the school cafeteria for a Q&A session on the coronavirus outbreak and how to prepare at home, in the community and here at Wedgwood Elementary.

Chetan Seshadri is a Wedgwood dad, MD and associate professor of Infectious Disease at UW, and practices at Harborview. His wife, Helen Chu, leads the Seattle Flu Study and is currently working with local and national officials to help facilitate Seattle’s response to coronavirus. Chetan has generously offered his time to answer questions from our community and provide advice based on his knowledge and experience.

Have questions right now? Chetan has shared the following resources in advance of this Q&A: what you can do to prepare, and information about masks.

Wedgwood in Wonderland — Auction!

Don’t be late! Friday, March 6th is the last day to buy auction ticketsGet your tickets HERE.

Our annual spring auction is on Friday, March 20th at the Mountaineers Club. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled evening in support our kids, teachers and parent community. Food is being catered by Skillet – including vegetarian and gluten free options.  To wash it all down, there will be beer, wine and cocktails, all included with your ticket!

Join us for fun, games, and tons of great items to bid on – kids’ activities, sporting events, spa services, weekend getaways, and exclusive experiences. Best of all, you’ll get a chance to hang out with other Wedgwood parents and make new friends.

What can you do to help make our auction a financial success?

WORK IT! It takes a crew of volunteers the night of the auction to pull off this event, doing everything from registering guests to manning the bar to packing up items for the winner bidder.  No need to buy a ticket – dinner is on us and you can still bid on the goods (but no drinking until after your shift). Sign up here.

BAKE IT!  Another great way to contribute – donate a dessert!  At the auction, bidders compete to buy their first choice of a sweet treat for their table. We also love store-bought treats!

DONATE A GIFT CARD! We need lots! Grab a $10 gift card to your favorite local coffee shop, and drop it on our auction chair’s doorstep or mail slot: 7722 19th Ave NE. If you’d like to donate a gift card of higher value, let us know! We’ll make sure to give it a special label. It’s going to take about 70 gift cards to make this a success!

Thank you for your support of our fundraising efforts! See you there!

James and the Giant Peach is HERE!

Our annual musical is finally here! Wedgwood 3rd-5th grade cast and crew have been working so hard and they are so excited to perform for you this weekend. Shows will take place in the Wedgwood cafeteria March 6 at 6pm, March 7 at 6pm, and March 8 at 4pm; seating begins 20 minutes before show time.

A few remaining tickets are available for the Friday evening performance; Saturday and Sunday are sold out! Tickets can be purchased through tututix.com/wedgwoodmusical and are $6 each. All tickets must be sold online and are only available through March 5; no tickets will be sold at the door. There will be an all-school performance on Monday, March 9 so that all Wedgwood elementary kids will have a chance to see the show for free. No additional audience members are allowed at this school performance.

A HUGE thank-you to Eia Waltzer, our fearless music and theatre teacher, as well as all the parents who donate their time to help our kids put on this fantastic performance.

Wedgwood Night at the Mariners

Tickets are $10/each and need to be ordered by March 14th. Information is coming home with your student today, or you can print the order form here!

Author Visit: Jewell Parker Rhodes

Secret Garden Books is generously bringing author Jewell Parker Rhodes to visit with our Wedgwood 4th and 5th graders on Friday, March 13th.

Jewell Parker Rhodes is an award winning author of many books including Towers Falling, Ghost Boys, as well as her latest title, Black Brother, Black Brother.  Ms. Parker Rhodes has a gift of writing books on current issues and topics in a way that allows her readers to critically think about current events and the world around them. Many of her books offer a wonderful platform for sparking meaningful discussions between parents and children.

Although our 4th and 5th graders will be attending her presentation, anyone is invited to order her books. To place an order, you may either download the order form or pick one up from the Wedgwood Library.  All forms and checks (made out to Secret Garden Books) should be turned into Mrs. Leland no later than Thursday, March 12th. Questions? After School Mandarin Immersion Program

At Little Oranges, our teachers collaborate to create a safe, fun, engaging, active, play-based immersive Mandarin Chinese classroom environment of imagination games, storytelling, movement, songs and art, helping to lay the foundation for a secondary language in the same natural way children learn their mother tongue. A supportive community and social circle to feel safe, learn, play and be with friends.

Our curriculum is completely child-centered ― we build comprehensive listening and speaking skills organically around topi¬cs in which children take a natural interest, with words that are fun to learn and use. Children visit dinosaurs, pet unicorns, fly with dragons, discover volcanoes, ride in hot air balloons, and blast off in rocket ships!

We also explore fun elements of Chinese culture through musical instruments, brush character calligraphy, ink painting, food, clothing, dance, poetry and much more.

We hope your aspiring little cultural ambassador and language learner will join us!

After-school class availability (with soft start times):
Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday: 2pm-6pm
Wednesday 1pm-6pm
