Wild, Wild Wedgwood Comes to School this Friday!

Dust off those spurs and shine up them boots, it’s time for the fall dance! If your kiddo’s closet looks more PNW than Texas, don’t fear – Western-themed swag will be available for purchase after school on Thursday and during the dance (while supplies last). We’ll be selling cowboy hats, bandanas, hair ties, and sheriff badges (glow sticks will be for sale at the dance) with prices ranging from $.25-$4.00.

The dance is free to all, but please remember to bring food donations for the annual Wedgwood Pantry Food Drive. The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open in the library during the dance.

Volunteers Needed: Calling all cowboys, cowgirls, and cowpersons!  If you’d like to volunteer at the dance, please sign up here. Questions? Contact Fall Dance parent leads Radley & Charisa Lantin.

Donate to the School Pantry

The annual Wedgwood Elementary Food Drive is this week! Please bring canned food (soup, meats, fruit, vegetables), beans, pasta, rice & kid-friendly (raisins, mac ‘n cheese, crackers, etc.) to the lobby and our volunteer team will help organize and set up the Wedgwood Food Pantry for the year. The Pantry is available to all Wedgwood families who need it, located in the downstairs hallway near the elevator. Take what you need, no questions asked.

Musical Tech Crew Signups & Parent Meeting

If your 3rd-5th grader is interested in being part of the tech crew for James and the Giant Peach, packets are now available for pick up from Ms. Waltzer in Portable 1. Kids will have the opportunity to be involved in building props, sets, costumes, or helping out backstage during the show! Signup forms are due back to Ms. Waltzer by Friday, December 6.

In addition, we will hold a meeting for parents of tech crew kids on Friday, December 13, from 6-7pm in Portable 1 (adults only, no kids please). At this meeting we will cover attendance and discipline policies, schedule, and overall expectations. This is a great time to ask questions if you or your child is unsure about participating. This meeting is for tech crew parents only, not the cast. If you have any questions about the parent meeting or tech crew application, please email wedgwoodmusical@gmail.com.

Weird Smile? Awkward Expression? Picture Re-Takes are this Thursday!

Didn’t get the smiling, angelic school photos you were expecting? Not to fear. Dorian Studios will be back this Thursday to re-take photos starting around 8:15 am. Simply send your student in with their photo packet, and let their teacher know you’d like re-takes. If your student was absent for picture day, let their teacher know so they will be sure to send them over for photos.

Submit your Art for the Yearbook Cover Contest

Would your student would like to participate in our annual yearbook cover contest? It’s easy! Simply pick up a form from the front office.

This year our theme is Wedgwood Works Together. Winning entries should showcase inclusive Marmots working as a team at learning, creativity and play, and using the Wedgwood Way: being caring, respectful and responsible. Please observe the following guidelines:

  • Must say “Wedgwood Elementary” (spelled correctly!) and “2019-2020.”

  • Use colorful markers and pens only, no crayons please!

  • Incorporate Marty Marmot into the design.

  • Stay true to the theme outlined above.

The winner will be announced before winter break, and will receive a free yearbook! Submit your design before Thanksgiving break (Friday, Nov. 22), in the main office.

Email WedgwoodYearbookSea@gmail.com with any questions.

Scholastic Book Fair on Now!

Get a jump start on your holiday shopping by stopping by the book fair in the library, where a percentage of your purchase helps to fund new books for our library! You can send in money with your student on their book fair day (their teachers will let you know when this is), or stop by together during the night of the fall dance this Friday. Please consider signing up for a shift and helping our librarian make this book fair a roaring success. Thank you!

Which State has a Longer Coastline: Maine or Rhode Island?

Know the answer? Think your child does? The National Geographic “GeoBee” is coming to Wedgwood – but we need your support! Open to 4th and 5th graders, this national competition is designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world. Wedgwood parent Vaishali Sharda is organizing a Wedgwood team, and needs at least 6 students to participate; she will also lead the team in practice and preparation for the competition. For more information, please contact Vaishali at: vaishalisharda163@gmail.com.

LGBTQ Dinner at Meany Middle School

Meany Middle School is hosting its annual LGBTQ dinner on November 14th from 6-8pm, and welcomes Wedgwood families to attend. Members of district leadership will be there to welcome LGBTQ families and their friends. Dinner and entertainment provided! To reserve a space, please RSVP with the number of people in your party to Brennon Ham at brham@seattleschools.org.
